Things I Learned By Creating This Site

It’s hard to believe it, but this site has been in existence almost three years now. In May of 2015, I began an experiment which was partly a hobby, and partly a way for me to answer a need I had to help the community more than what I was able to do in my daily work. I really had no idea what I was doing, or where I was going with the site. I just let it develop as it might, and soon it began to take on a life of its own. Now, there are almost 300 posts on a variety of topics. Over 100 people have chosen to “follow” the site, and citizens of almost 80 countries have read my words. (The thought of those last two statistics is quite humbling.)

Well, a little while back I came to the realization that I wanted to do more than what this free version of WordPress would allow me to do. I wanted to do more than just be a reporter, putting together informational articles and reporting on the latest research, for instance. And so, I began to do some research as to how I could accomplish this. And I believe I have found a way.

I’m working on a new and revised version of this website. But I’m not going to be just moving this one over to a new webhost. Yes, I’m going to be revamping some of my articles, to make them more readable and offer more personal insight. But some of the other things that I eventually hope to offer include:
— Videos
— eBooks
— Webinars
— A discussion forum where readers can interact with each other and also contribute material
— A way to consult with me privately, or just ask me a question
— And more

Of course, I won’t be offering everything right away. It’s going to take some time to build this new site. But in the next month I will be putting together an initial offering that I propose will meet my readers’ needs in ways that this site cannot. Mark your calendar; I plan to launch the new http://www.exploringdementia.com on March 15. (Don’t go there yet; you won’t find anything.

If you would like to receive information about the progress of the new site, including some features that will be reserved for subscribers only, then please take a minute to fill out the form that I will be posting here in the next couple of days. Don’t worry, I’ll keep your contact information private, and will use it only for site updates and other communications having to do with the site. But the webhost I’m using does not allow a person to click a button and “follow” the site. So, please take a minute and allow me to place you on my membership list.

Oh, and I won’t stop posting here. At least, not until the other site opens.

Thanks to all my loyal readers, and to my new ones. I look forward to seeing you on the other side.
